Look after your socks to look after your feet

The first thing most of us do if we decide to take walking seriously is to buy ourselves a good pair of boots.

This is a good thing as a we need to ensure that we care for our feet if we are going to spend a lot of time on them they should be as comportable as possible.

What we then do though is skimp on walking socks.

A  good pair of walking socks suiable for the conditions and specifically designed for walking is as important as a good pair of boots.

Gone are the days when the choice was wool or cotton. Their are now some excellent alternatives such as coolmax, and thermalite, and some of the more technical socks use a mixture of materials for different parts of the sock.

Meraklon

The wovens lightness
, the softness and the non sweat absorption with dry perception in contact with the skin are the tailored properties for the Meraklon high performance fibers introduction, in blend with natural fibers.

Coolmaxᆴ
Coolmaxᆴ fabrics are specially designed to provide not only superior moisture management, but also to enhance the wearer's comfort. The specially-engineered fibers using Coolmaxᆴ fabrics provide enhanced breathability (called "air permeability" by the techies) that differentiate Coolmaxᆴ  from generic polyester fabrics, which use standard round fibers. Air permeability is just one of our key performance tests that fabrics must pass before they can be sold as "Coolmaxᆴ". And, remember, that all of the benefits of Coolmaxᆴ fabrics are permanently built right into the fiber, requiring no chemical treatments like those other wicking fabrics.

What to look for in a good walking sock

A good pair of walking socks will have been constructed from specific yarns carefully considered to be suitable for walking.

Ensure you buy a pair of socks suitable for the type of walking you do (warm weather/cold weather, etc).

Enure the sock is sutably shaped (don't buy a tube type sock). Look at the seams to ensure their are no blister or pinch points.

Make sure they are suitabley elasticated so that they will stay in place and won't slip and gather (causing blisters).

Replace you socks regularly. Examine them for wear and tear, and throw them away the moment they look worn, or begin to hurt your feet.

Remember next to your boot, your sock is equally important purchase.
