Walking essentials Winter (cooler weather)
Winter
For me this is the best time of year for walking, there is less traffic or people on the trails, but you can get fantastic views. What better way to spend a day after if you have been stuck in an office all week, and provided you have the right equipment you can be warm and comfortable.
Key Essentials
Good warm and waterproof walking boots
Warm hat
Waterproof breathable shell jacket
Warm fleece top
Thermal inner layers (have spare layers with you so that you can add of take off layers as required)
Water Bottle
Map
Rucksack (Daysack)
Emergency food
Good walking socks
Warm Gloves
Good, quick drying walking trousers
Torch
Nice to have extras
Flask of coffee or soup
Finally, don't over do it. Start by doing shorter walks, and build up slowly. Don't take risks, check when it gets dark, and check the weather, the outdoors can be unforgiving if you don't respect it. Learn to use a map and compass.
And don't forget to go out and enjoy yourselves!
